Essential Question: What is the relationship between healthy food selections and optimal health?

Fast food restaurants are infamous for their high calorie, high fat, and high saturated fat items. Although several fast food restaurants have recently added nutritious options to their menus, they still offer some very unhealthy choices. Many individuals are unaware of the harmful affects of fast food. This WebQuest will allow you to analyze the nutritional value of fast food and help you establish healthy alternatives. The class will be divided into collaborative groups and each team will have the opportunity of evaluating a specific fast food restaurant.


 

I.) The student will be able to: locate and evaluate nutritional information for a fast food restaurant. (Cognitive)

A.) Maryland VSC Health Standard: Personal and Consumer Health (3.0) - students will demonstrate the ability to use consumer knowledge, skills, and strategies to develop sound personal health practices involving the use of health care products, services, and community resources.

II.) TSWBAT: analyze and reflect on nutritional information to make healthier food choices. (Cognitive)
A.) Maryland VSC Health Standard: Health Education (6.0) - Students will demonstrate the ability to use nutrition and fitness knowledge, skills, and strategies to promote a healthy lifestyle.

III.) TSWBAT: create and report healthier meal choices to the class via tables, graphs, and pictures. (Cognitive and Affective)
A.) Maryland VSC Health Standard: Disease Prevention and Control (7.0) - Students will demonstrate the ability to apply prevention and treatment knowledge, skills, and strategies to reduce susceptibility and manage disease.
